After Id completed all the paintings for my next solo show Abstracted Love (Friends Of Leon Gallery, opens 26th May) my partner Carsten and I were sitting in my studio discussing the body of work. To my astonishment, a little later on, Carsten presented a poem about one of the pieces, 'Once We Were'.
I’ve kept you a secret garden path grown over with new green life,
And I’ve walked past you in crowds and pretended not to
Fight my way back through the undergrowth.
When the wind drops and the trees part I sometimes happen into you in sacred clearings of indulgence No one knows how to get there but me, and no one knows what meeting you there costs me.
And I keep only just enough landmarks to find my way back,
To a place that reminds me of how we once were.
I was overwhelmed and touched by the words that so eloquently expressed what my painting was about. And then, he kept writing… more to come soon.
