The Measure of My Blood 1 is part of The Measure of My Blood series examining my history and mixed heritage. For over two decades of painting I have been asking, what is it to be a New Zealander? This is an imagined painting of one of my great-grandmothers. The photos we have of her are not very descriptive. But in one photo she is a beautiful young Maori woman wearing a korowai. I wonder what her life was like.
