What is a 'limited edition' print?

A limited edition print is an artist commissioned print of an original artwork released in a limited number (e.g. 100). Once the limited number is sold no more will be made. The prints come numbered and signed by the artist. The benefits of a limited edition print are, they are more affordable than an original painting, AND they still have the ability to increase in value over time as they are considered a unique artwork in their own right and have a collectable appeal. They are usually printed on high quality papers using archival inks to ensure the print has a long life.

What is an 'open edition' print?

An open edition print is more akin to a poster. It is a replica of the original artwork but it is unsigned and un-numbered. It is a good option for the budget conscious but it does not hold the potential to increase in value over time.
